Like all sports equipment and facilities, climbing and bouldering facilities and the equipment used are subject to wear and tear and should undergo appropriate safety checks.
The Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (bfu) provides guidance on this topic (https://www.bfu.ch/de/ratgeber/hallenklettern). They state that regular maintenance and an annual safety inspection are strongly recommended to ensure all necessary and reasonable precautions are taken regarding upkeep (Art. 58 of the Swiss Code of Obligations).
In addition to the climbing structure itself, the anchor points on the building, and the life-saving rope pulleys and belay points, the safety equipment such as ropes, harnesses, carabiners, etc., must also undergo regular inspection and maintenance and be replaced as needed. Climbing holds should also be brushed or washed and tightened. In some cases, a regrip or replacement of the hold may also be necessary.
In addition to regular inspections, an annual safety inspection of the climbing facility should therefore be carried out by a specialist company. This inspection will check, for example, the building connection, the substructure, the safety equipment, etc., to ensure they are in proper working order.
You must be able to rely on the safe operating condition of your climbing facility. Furthermore, functionality is of crucial importance.
